What Happens Off the Court

Hi, nice to meet you! My name is Roni Lupu, and I’ve been managing the basketball agency *Ron Sport* for over 24 years. Throughout my career, I’ve represented numerous players from Israel and abroad, guiding them toward a successful and secure career.
If you love basketball, you’ve probably heard of the Israeli Basketball League. It’s considered one of the top leagues in the basketball world, home to teams that compete — and often win — prestigious European titles, such as Maccabi Tel Aviv, Hapoel Jerusalem, and others.
Players from around the globe aspire to play In this league, as it offers a unique platform to showcase their potential at the highest level. The league provides
opportunities for players from various countries to shine alongside Israeli players, competing for coveted titles against Europe’s top teams. Sounds like a dream come true, right ?

However, sometimes external factors can influence a player’s decision to grow
their career here. A classic example is the unfortunate reality of wars that
occasionally affect Israel. On other occasions, global crises like the COVID-19 pandemic come into play.
Players often relocate with their families and understandably want to ensure the best possible environment for them. Sometimes, there’s a concern that certain contract clauses might restrict a player’s ability to act in their own or their
family’s best interest in unusual circumstances.
But let me put your mind at ease — things are different today. Teams have
become more accommodating and understanding toward foreign players facing unexpected challenges. Contracts now include various solutions to support players in such situations.
But that’s not my main point. What I’m talking about Is entirely different: the
decision-making power ultimately remains in *your* hands. You determine how to handle the situation because your agent ensures that your contract legally covers every possible scenario to protect your Interests.
That’s the advantage of having a skilled, professional agent who prioritizes your
well-being. With extensive experience in the Industry and a wide network of
connections, a quality agent knows how to advance your career to its fullest
potential. Most importantly, in exceptional circumstances, you maintain control over your decisions.
Experience is key. An experienced agent does not negotiate only about salary
and bonuses. An experienced agent negotiates equally important clauses such as injuries, such as playing in a country under war, such as clauses that protect the player during a season. A local agent for a foreign player is a very, very important thing when it comes to playing in a distant country where your agent is the “closest person in the world to you in the country you play in.” When there is a problem with a player in a foreign country, the agent is the person to turn to, whether it is a professional/contract matter, or a personal matter off the field
